Former Huawei and Samsung UK and Ireland boss returns to the industry after a year to join accessories manufacturer
Gusto Telecom has appointed industry veteran Mark Mitchinson as its new non-executive chairman.
He returns to the industry after almost a year having left Huawei as its UK and Ireland executive vice president last September after more than three years.
Prior to joining Huawei, Mitchinson (pictured) had a five-month stint as group managing director of business, wholesale and distribution at Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy.
Previous to that had spent almost 12 years at Samsung, with his final role being UK and Ireland vice president for more than two-and-a-half years.
Mitchinson said: “I’ve kept a close eye on the job that Joe and his team has done at Gusto and when he invited me to take a closer look at the company, I could instantly recognise the size of the opportunity and the potential for future growth.”
Managing director Joe Bennett added: “Gusto has experienced substantial growth over the past three years and we want to build on that success both locally and internationally. Mark is one of the most successful and respected industry figures with a proven track record and an unrivaled reputation in leadership and brand building.”
Since launching in August 2012, Gusto has expanded to sell its products in 16 countries, including Australia, France, Italy, Spain and New Zealand. Its products are sold across more than 5,000 UK retail outlets, with partners including O2, Currys/PC World, John Lewis and Sainsbury’s.
The accessory manufacturer is targeting sales of £15 million this year, before doubling that to £30 million before the start of 2017.
