Mystery Caller is heading off to university in September. He wants an affordable SIM contract and decent phone to match his tight student budget. What can each network offer him? Are there any good student deals out there?

5: Virgin

I heard what sounded like a sigh coming from the other end of the line as he replied he had no other student deals to offer. It sounded like he really couldn’t be bothered at all.

4: EE

Rachel told me that iPhones are popular among students and that I’d see a lot of them at university. Unfortunately, her sales pitch wasn’t all that convincing.

3: Vodafone

Carly’s pitch for the HTC Desire 520 and Sony Aqua were equally as confident as her Samsung pitch, but she assured me I’d be getting a much better deal with the Samsung as it has better specifications.

He offered the Samsung Galaxy J1 and he really sold the positives by telling me why it’s better than my current iPhone 4.

Rather than sounding like she was reading specs from a script, Hannah’s enthusiasm for the phone really stood out.

Summary

Mystery Caller wanted a cheap phone contract and affordable device that doesn’t chew too much into his tight student budget.

O2 slumps to bottom place because their salesman sounded like he really couldn’t be bothered to give a good deal. He sounded rude, which I’m sure isn’t the image O2 really wants to portray.

EE’s Rachel was better, but unfortunately she was let down by a confused, unconfident pitch.

Carly picked up what was initially an awkward call by telling me why going with Vodafone would offer me more benefits than my current network.

Michael from Three really sold the positives of the products he was selling and put my needs into consideration.

Hannah from Virgin takes the takes top spot because it felt like she was really going the extra mile to give me a deal that I’d be more than happy with.

She wanted to make sure all my queries were answered and made sure she gave plenty of detail when selling me her recommended devices.
