The Huawei G8 launched alongside the Huawei Mate S
Huawei unveiled its new G8 smartphone during a packed press conference in Berlin at IFA 2015 (September 2).
The Chinese manufacturer kicked off the event, which is Europe’s largest consumer electronics trade show, launched the G8 alongside the Mate S smartphone. Huawei is also set to achieve smartphone record sales of 100 million in 2015.
The device, a follow up to the Huawei G7, is the more affordable alternative to the Mate S (£476) and is set to arrive in the UK this month for around £300. It has an all-metal body, 5.5-inch full HD display, is 7.5mm thick and weighs 167grams. It uses a Snapdragon 616 octa-core precessor and has 3GB of RAM. The phone runs on Emotion UI, Huawei’s own redesigned version of Google’s latest Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system.
A fingerprint sensor designed for unlocking the phone, flicking through the phone’s image gallery and answering calls has also been added to the back. This lies beneath a 13 megapixel rear facing camera, which has optical image stabilisation built in to improve low light photography. There’s also a five megapixel front-facing camera.
