Downloadable application enables Apple and Android customers to make calls using their home phone plan
BT SmartTalk has reached its one millionth download, under three years after it launched in January 2013.
The application links a customer’s Apple iPhone or Android smartphone with their home phone calling plan. It is available as a free download from the respective app stores.
Calls can be made over WiFi when there is poor mobile coverage in a particular area using the app and automatically connects to one of the more than five million BT WiFi hotspots.
They can also be made abroad at UK landline rates using the app.
BT Consumer commercial marketing and digital managing director Pete Oliver said: “Reaching our millionth download for BT SmartTalk in only two years is great news.
“We’ve revamped the app after listening to our customers and it’s now even easier for them to continue saving money away from home around the world and to access their BT calling plan on their mobile with BT SmartTalk via WiFi.”
