Three MVNO FreedomPop goes live in UK

First 10,000 users to sign up, FreedomPop get free 1000 minutes, 1000 text and 1GB of data free for the first month of service

Three MVNO FreedomPop has launched its Free SIM-only proposition in the UK today.

Users who pre-registered for the free MVNO can now get a SIM-card with 200 minutes, 200 texts and 200 MBs of data completely free every month for life.

As part of a launch offer, the first 10,000 users who sign up to the service will also get a free 1,000 minutes, 1,000 texts and 1GB of data for the first month of their contract.

In May, FreedomPop said the UK would become its first market outside of the US, where it has around one million connections.

FreedomPop makes money by selling additional services. At launch, these will include an extra number that will allow users to call foreign countries for no extra cost, or compressed data packages that allows up to 40 per cent more usage. Users can also buy additional minutes, texts and data if they run out, and are able to share their data with friends.

“The U.K. has had many mobile providers and services enter the market, but none of them offer a completely new business model enabling free service, guaranteed for life,” said FreedomPop CEO Stephen Stokols (pictured above). “Similar to the U.S., FreedomPop will deliver unprecedented value to consumers with an easy-to-use, high-quality mobile service. We believe everyone should have access to mobile services, and we’re going to make that a reality in the U.K.”
