LG unveils dual-screen V10 smartphone

Manufacturer also took wraps off first 4G connected Android Wear Smartwatch

LG has taken wraps off a dual-screened smartphone with a pair of selfie cameras, and also unveiled its first cellular smartwatch at a press conferences in the US and Korea.

The LG V10 runs Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) and has two screens – a 5.7 inch QHD main display, and a secondary 2.1-inch inset display that sits at the top.

The secondary screen can be set up as “always on” and can display notifications, weather updates, time and battery information. It can also be used as a launching area for most-used apps.

LG-V10-Second-ScreenThe device has a 16 megapixel snapper on the rear, and dual 5MP which allows 80-degree selfies, or 120-degree wide angle shots.

It packs a removable 3,000 mAh battery, and is powered by a 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Processor with 4GB of RAM.

It comes with 64GB of internal memory, plus room for a microSD card up to 2TB. The device is also LTE Cat 6 ready.

It Space Black, Luxe White, Modern Beige, Ocean Blue and Opal Blue, and will go on sale in selected markets including the US and China. No UK release plans were given.

3G Watch

LG also revealed its first ever 3G connected smart watch, called the LG Watch Urbane 2nd edition.

The follow-up to the Watch Urbane, which was launched at Mobile World Congress in March, the new watch is the first Android Wear device to come with LTE. (Samsung’s Gear S runs on its own Tizen operating system).

It has a 1.38-inch P-OLED display and is powered by a 1.2GHz chipset from Qualcomm.

Sensors included on the watch are an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a compass, a barometer and a GPS chip.

It is IP67 dust and water resistant, and comes in space black, Opal Blue, Luxe White and Signature Brown.

“The wearable sector continues to evolve and we’re playing an active role in that by bringing to market various devices that appeal to various consumers,” said LG Electronics Mobile CEO Juno Cho.

“At LG, we don’t think there is a one-size-fits-all wearable device. This second edition of our Watch Urbane aims to be a must-have smart device for active individuals who want to stay connected to the world, whether they’re at work, at home or on the tennis court.”
