Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy View – the largest Android mobile device on the market. Availability and pricing is yet to be confirmed.
The tablet is powered by a 1.6GHz processor and runs the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS but its most striking feature is the 18.4-inch Full HD touchscreen.
Samsung said the device, which also features twin stereo speakers, has been designed with a video-centric interface in mind, with a dedicated home screen for videos showcasing various content services in one place.
The Galaxy View, which will be available in WiFi and LTE (NanoSIM) models, is 11.9mm thick and weighs 2.65kg. It also comes with a full HD 2.1 megapixel front camera and a two-way stand to make it easier to view content.
Other features of note include 2GB of RAM, a 5,700mAh battery that provides 8.5 hours of video playback and either 32GB or 64GB of memory that can be expanded with the use of a microSD card.
Samsung IT and Mobile Business CEO JK Shin said the Galaxy View provides “an entirely new way of consuming mobile video and entertainment”.
