Cellhire announces staff changes as part of double acquisition

Staff from rivals 0044 and Dataroam will move to Cellhire’s York HQ

Global SIM rental dealer Cellhire has announced it will make a series of staff changes after acquiring rivals 0044 and Dataroam.

Angus MacLeod, who was 0044 director from June 2004, will join Cellhire as its new head of online business development. Staff from 0044 and its sister company Dataroam will now be based at Cellhire’s York HQ. Mobile News has contacted Cellhire for more comment.

Cellhire was founded in 1987 and the MVNO claims annual turnover has reached £22 million since then. The business has previously been involved with major sporting events including the Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup and Cannes Film Festival. For example, it provided 15,000 international SIMS to the BBC, Sky and Reuters at the 2014 World Cup. Contracts of up to two years are offered by Cellhire, which has deals with over 100 networks in around 50 countries.

Both 0044 and Dataroam also offer international voice and data tariffs, covering countries including Australia, France, Germany and the US.

Cellhire MD Matt Bennett (pictured) said: “We’re very excited to be bringing the 0044 team into our UK business. We have a great opportunity to capitalise on their significant market share and use some of Cellhire’s significant in-house resource to maximise growth.”

Angus MacLeod added: “I’m delighted to join the Cellhire team and share my knowledge and passion for the UK roaming sector within the business. I’m committed to growing the business’s UK brands and increasing Cellhire’s market share online.”
