MVNO has secured $50 million of investment to launch new proposition in UK and US
FreedomPop is to launch a new Global SIM that gives users 200MB of free roaming data that can be used in any of 25 countries.
The Three MVNO, which launched in the UK in October, this month secured $50 million of investment to launch its Global SIM proposition, and expand in to additional countries in Europe, Asia and South America.
The Global SIM will allow users to access that initial 200MB of data free every month, but users will need to buy more data if they run out. Additional data costs £10 per 500MBs.
FreedomPop has also launched a new 4G Hotspot which is powered by the Global SIM. It costs $49.99 (including SIM) at launch.
“FreedomPop has proven that new Internet business models work in the telecom space and has developed the technology to scale it globally,” said FreedomPop COO Steven Sesar. “This new financing not only validates our capabilities, but it also ensures that FreedomPop has the capital required to become a top 10 global service provider.”
“The financing also supports our Global network launch, which is an exciting way to give consumers free Internet access across the world and eliminate roaming costs no matter where they are.”
