New Metro line will link Barcelona airport to the city, with a stop located directly under the Fira Gran Via
Mobile World Congress is taking place at the Fira Gran Via, which is approximately 10 kilometres from Barcelona airport.
Attendees will be offered a free travel pass when collecting their MWC badges. This can be used on all Metro and FGC trains on event days.
The nearest train station to the Fira Gran Via is Europa/Fira and is served by a number of lines: Metro lines S4, S8 and S33 as well as commuter rail lines R5, R6, R50 and R60. There is also the H12 bus line, which runs across the city to the venue.
New for this year is a L9 Sud Metro line. This connects Barcelona airport to the city, with a stop located directly underneath the South Entrance of the Fira. It connects with three other major Metro line: L1 Red, L3 Green and L5 Blue.
GSMA chief marketing officer Michael O’Hara said the introduction of the new direct train line should ease much of the congestion that has plagued the event since moving from the Fira Montjuic venue four years ago.
“This is going to be huge for us. The one criticism we’ve had since moving to the new venue is long taxi queues, particularly towards the end of the day.
“Everyone receives a free Metro pass when collecting their MWC badges, so we are hoping that this will really clear out the congestion and get people to their destination as quickly as possible.”
