One of the standout device launches at this year’s Mobile World Congress was certainly the Samsung Galaxy S7. Can the networks persuade Mystery Shopper this is a device worth having?

5: Virgin

There was no initiative to make the handset sound like a good flagship, as Samsung has been so keen to do through its marketing. Anne made it sound like any other phone on the market.

Despite sounding very rude at the start of our call, Shannon soon corrected her mistakes and delivered a solid and very honest sales pitch. She would have scored higher had this been consistent throughout.

Like previous calls with Three, it didn’t feel like just another sale on the phone. It felt like a real conversation and Matt came across as genuinely interested.

The salesman’s enthusiasm made the handset stand out from the S6. It was clear there was a major difference between both devices.

Summary

Anne was very drab and dry and droned on when she was telling me about the device. She had some information to give me but it was clear that she reading from a computer screen. This did not result in a convincing sales pitch.

Shannon was very brash and abrupt at the start of the call, but soon re- deemed herself to deliver a solid and very honest sales pitch.

Matt from Three had the potential to be up near the top by sounding inter- ested in me as a customer and eager to answer my query. Unfortunately the line was cut halfway through the call. The lack of a call back from Three was another disappointment.

Aaron was very thorough in detailing the specs of the S7 edge and offered some very tempting incentives and tariffs.

Vodafone takes the lead, however. The unnamed salesperson added detail and enthusiasm to a solid sales pitch. It was just a shame I wasn’t given a name.
