MVNO claims Home From Home proposition will see charges eliminated this summer in more countries than any other UK network
Tesco Mobile is scrapping roaming charges in 31 countries, which it claims is more than any other UK mobile operator.
The MVNO’s ‘Home From Home’ proposition will be active from May 23 until September 3, and will enable customers to use their normal tariff allowances in destinations including France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
This applies to those that remain within their monthly or prepay minute, text or data bundles. Once these have been exceeded, they will be charged the same rates as UK out of bundle charges.
Calls and texts to EU numbers will cost 4p per minute and 1p per text, but there will be no additional costs for receiving calls or texts whilst in the Home From Home countries.
Tesco Mobile chief marketing officer Simon Groves said: “This summer, millions of us will head off to Europe on our holidays, and being able to use our mobiles abroad is as important as packing a passport.
“We want our customers to enjoy their holiday without having to worry about the cost of using their phones. So we decided, why wait until 2017 to banish roaming? Let’s help our customers and give them a taste of what’s to come.”
Last October, the European Parliament ruled that EU roaming charges will be scrapped from June 15, 2017, with mobile operators required to lower call, text and data charges from next Saturday (April 30).
