CityFibre to turn Northampton into a Gigabit City

CityFibre plans to create a new network in Northampton to enable faster broadband speeds for the town

The digital infrastructure provider will build a 45km state of the art fibre network to provide “Northampton businesses up to 100 times faster than the UK’s average.”

The increase in speed will future-proof businesses, as demand for higher bandwith is always increasing, according to CityFibre.

CityFibre will also go into partnership with Database for Business (DBfB) to sell its services to third parties.

Northampton County Council were already in the motions of setting up faster broadband countywide by 2017. The council hopes the move will future-proof businesses and provide a platform for start-up companies to set up in Northampton.

Currently Northampton is named as the best place for business start-ups outside London, according to Cities Outlook 2016.

CityFibre CEO Greg Mesch said: “Pure fibre networks like these will one day be common-place but until then, Northampton and its businesses will be able to enjoy a huge digital head start on the competition.”
