O2 has become the first operator in the UK to exclusively stock the OnePlus3 smartphone.

This marks the first time a OnePlus handset has been available to purchase on the high street in the UK. The product will be available from the operator at the end of this month (September 29) on a range of Refresh tariffs.

Options include £28 per month for 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data, or £35.50 per month for unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 3GB of data.

The 3 is the fourth release by Taiwanese manufacturer OnePlus since it launched in 2013. It has previously operated on an e-tail only model with the One, 2 and X devices, which could just be purchased on an ‘invite-only’ basis. Customers had to go through a selection process before being able to buy these phones. The 3 is the first handset from OnePlus that can be purchased invite-free.

Although official shipment figures for the 3 are not available, 1.5 million One units were sold since June 2014. No other numbers have been revealed for the other smartphones.

O2 head of devices Magnus McDonald said: “As the only operator in the UK to sell the OnePlus 3, we’re proud to be bringing our customers more choice when it comes to picking their next flagship phone.

“The OnePlus 3 offers high quality cutting edge technology and great design at an affordable price and we think our customers will love it.”
