Survival in the media world
By Paul Withers - Tuesday 13 November 2007
Funnily enough, I never thought about being a journalist when I was growing up. It was football or nothing. When I realised that I couldn't even get a regular game in my Sunday league team, I knew it was time for a change.
I was 17 when I was studying Media at college and all of a sudden I realised that I loved writing and all the high-paced pressure. I’ve spent almost two years as a professional in the industry now and have never thought of looking back. The mobile phone industry is busy, high paced and sometimes, high-pressured and that really didn’t hit home until I attended the recent iPhone launch night in London.
Never before have I seen a media frenzy like it – dozens of flashing cameras with people clambering on whatever they could find to get the best picture. Huge video cameras swinging from side to side – I had to duck my head just to avoid a nasty knock!
It’s the biggest media craze I’ve ever been a part of and strangely enough, I’m ready for more of them!
