GetJar developer site hits 300m downloads

Independent mobile developer community GetJar claimed last week it had more than 300 million application downloads since April 2006.

GetJar claims to have the largest free application download site in the world, with 200,000 registered developers and 10,000 free applications.

It offers applications for Java, Symbian and Windows handsets only.

Around 70,000 beta testers are enrolled on the site, and it claims an average of 14 million downloads per month, including working beta models.

GetJar chief executive Ilja Laurs said: "There is huge demand for mobile applications, illustrated by the popularity of apps such as MyWaves, which has seen more than four million downloads via GetJar worldwide but has so far been denied visibility on Apple’s App Store."
