Samsung shipments up 16pc

October 30, 2009

Samsung has reported positive results for the third quarter, with increases in shipments and profits for the period

Samsung's mobile shipments increased by 16 per cent in the third quarter of the year, compared with the same period last year.

Quarter-on-quarter, shipments rose by 15 per cent to 60.2 million globally, while profit also increased year-on-year from KRW 0.5 trillion (£256 million) to KRW 0.7 trillion.

Sales were reported to be at KRW 7.6 trillion up from KRW 6.94 in the previous quarter.

Samsung said in developed markets, it's full-touchphone handsets sales were the strongest, led by the Jet, Star and Touch-wiz ranges. In emerging markets, there was steady growth due to better channel demand in Latin America and China's national holiday promotion.

Samsung said it anticipates strong Q4 sales on the back of the peak season during Christmas.

It said pricing competition would increase in the mid and low-tier handsets and aims to obtain 20 per cent of the market globally by the end of the year.
