Orange reveals mobile data services boom
Monday 10 December 2007
Orange has found that mobile data services have generated nearly 22 per cent of network revenue in the last nine months.
The findings found that there has been a 37 per cent surge in picture messaging with Orange World, its mobile portal, receiving 2,34 million visitors and an average 250,000 daily repeat visitors.Orange also revealed a 25 per cent increase in the amount of text messages sent during this period, meaning that over one billion texts are sent each month.
The research comes from the Orange Digital Media Index, which reveals usage patterns across its range of entertainment and communications services over a three-month period.
Orange music downloads have also risen significantly with a 15 per cent increase to a figure of 295,000, and a 3.4 per cent increase in games downloaded to 691,032.
Orange director of portals Matthew Kirk said: “Coupled with mobile operator tie-ups with social network brands such as Bebo, mobile phones are quickly providing customers with yet another way of connecting with others in the way that text messaging did ten years ago.”
