Sony Ericsson to sponsor Empire Film Awards 2008

Manufacturer becomes main sponsor for fifth successive year

Sony Ericsson has signed up to be the headline sponsor for the Empire Film Awards 2008 for the fifth year running.

The partnership sees the awards now named The Sony Ericsson Empire Awards and provides the manufacturer with a platform to promote its K850i Cyber-shot handset.

New elements, including a short-film competition called Done In Sixty Seconds, has been added, whereby budding film directors are being challenged to make a one minute movie on their mobile phone or DV camera. The winning director will be given the opportunity to pick up their own award on the night. People can enter via the Awards microsite www.empireonline/awards

Also an Awards WAP site has been created to enable mobile users to access content from the microsite, such as a previous Awards winners gallery, Awards history and winners video interviews.

Sony Ericsson UK managing director John Harber said: “We’re really excited about the introduction of the new interactive elements this year, which should give film fans an even closer experience of the real thing.”

The Sony Ericsson Empire Awards take place on March 9 at The Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane.
