New 4G handset aimed at outdoor workers and sports enthusiasts
CAT Phones has today unveiled its second Android rugged smartphone, the S50.
The Android 4.4 KitKat ru handset follows the B15Q released in June and is the first 4G smartphone released by the rugged brand.
As with previous models, the S50 is designed for outdoor and environments where other smartphones may be at risk from being damaged.
The device, like the B15Q, is IP67 certified, meaning it is both water and dust proof and can withstand drops on hard surfaces such as concrete as well extreme temperatures from between -25 to 55c.
Features include scratch and shatter resistant 4.7 inch Gorilla Glass screen, eight megapixel camera with flash and HD video, 16 hour talk time battery, quad core (1.2Ghz) processor and 8GB storage expandable to 64GB with MicroSD.
The S50 is also the first Cat phone to be launched pre-loaded with the Cat Phones App Store, which includes both well known and widely used apps such as Skype.
Cat Phones CEO Oliver Schulte said: “Choosing a mobile phone suitable for outdoor pursuits has often meant making a compromise on either the functionality or the level of protection. Not so with the S50, which offers all of the features of a high-end smartphone with the level of protection and durability that you’d expect from the Cat brand.
He continued: “An active or outdoor lifestyle requires phones to be taken into environments that they’re not designed for. We recognised the need for a mobile that was built to be a true companion to these activities and environments rather than being hidden away in a bag or wrapped up in a rucksack.”
