USA: ‘Comes with Music’ delay

Nokia will delay the launch of its Comes With Music service in the US until next year, a spokesperson told Forbes magazine last week.

Nokia’s music download service was originally slated to launch in the US this year. Nokia defended the delay by stating a specific timeframe for the US launch has never been issued.

Nokia has now launched Comes With Music in nine markets following its debut in the UK in October 2008. Sales in the UK have so far been disappointing, compared with the advertising around the move and the significance of it to Nokia.

The US launch is important to Nokia as it seeks both to reinvent itself as a services company and also to establish itself better in the US, where its market share is comparatively low and the market expressed extreme loyalty to rivals Motorola, RIM and Apple.

Comes With Music includes unlimited downloaded music tracks as part of a one-off hardware fee. Customers get to keep their music libraries for 12 months.
