P40 series first in line, with older flagships to also benefit

Huawei will roll out the latest iteration of its smartphone software, EMUI 11, to 14 of its smartphones by March 2021.

The software came pre-installed on the manufacturer’s latest flagship range, the Mate 40, but Huawei is expanding its availability to other devices that are up to two years old.

The first devices to receive the software update are the P40, P40 Pro, P40 Pro +, and Mate 30 Pro. Huawei says these will have the update by mid-December.

They will be followed by the Mate Xs, P30, P30 Pro, P30 Pro New Edition, Mate 20 X, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20, Porsche Design Mate 20 RS, Mate 20 X 5G, and nova 5T.

Features

EMUI 11 has several new features across apps, animations and security. These include:

  • floating app windows, to enable multi-tasking between apps. These windows are resizable and can be minimised to bubbles when not in use.
  • A Story Creator template for photos and videos that automatically creates montages.
  • Super Notepad extraction, that takes images of text, scans them and creates a dedicated note file that is easier to read.
  • Privacy controls around the details included with shared photos such as date, time and location.
  • Note Lock, which stores important Notes in a vault that requires ID to unlock.
  • Multi-screen collaboration with Huawei Matebook PCs.
  • Screen projection that takes privacy into account – i.e. when you are projecting your phone’s screen onto an external display, incoming call and message notifications are restricted to your phone’s display for privacy.
