Smartphone vendor IMO also looking to release a 5G handset in second half of next year

Verve Connect’s challenger brand IMO has expanded its connectivity portfolio with a new range of wireless routers, including one with 5G support.

The range, set to launch next April, will support 4G and 5G connectivity, as well as mesh WiFi for remote connectivity around the home or office.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but will be “cost-effective” according to IMO chief marketing officer Chris Edwards.

Both the 4G and 5G routers will be powered by a Snapdragon chipset. All routers feature built-in intelligence and once turned on will rapidly build a home or office network. IMO says the routers can provide network access for up to 64 users.

The range represents an expansion of IMO’s product portfolio, with the vendor having specialised in budget smartphones.

Edwards said: “We have developed a range of high-performing and cost-effective wireless router solutions which are suitable for either home or business use.

“Our ambition is to support our partners by delivering wireless routers from a UK company in these challenging economic times and providing value-driven alternatives to some of the more traditional players in the market.”

Speaking to Mobile News, Edwards also revealed the vendor’s plans to release a 5G handset next year.

“This is a precursor to us looking to launch 5G handsets in the second half of 2020,” he said. “We’re waiting to pick the right time to go to market with 5G.”
