Samsung has bolstered both its mid-range and its 5G-capable portfolios with the announcement of the Galaxy A42 5G smartphone.
The device will retail from £349 when it launches on November 6, making it Samsung’s cheapest 5G phone at launch to date.
It signals a growing trend in the direction of cheap 5G devices. This year has already seen sub-£300 5G devices from Xiaomi, Realme and Motorola.
The A42 5G has a 6.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U display, and a 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging.
In hardware terms, it’s powered by an SM 7225 processor with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, expandable via MicroSD up to 1TB. It runs Android 10.
On the camera front, it has a quad rear display with a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 5MP macro lens and a 5MP depth sensor.
It will be available in Prism Dot Black, Prism Dot White and Prism Dot Grey colours, with a layered pattern in four shades on the back of the device.
“The Galaxy A42 5G delivers premium features and innovation, powered ready for super-fast 5G network connectivity,” said Samsung UK and Ireland vice president of sales James Kitto. “It is part of our ongoing commitment to deliver next-generation connectivity to more people.”
Aside from the RRP and release date, Samsung has not released any further information about retail or operator partners for the device.
