Converged smartphone and tablet device will be available in stores throughout the UK this week

Hardware manufacturer ASUS has today announced a partnership with Carphone Warehouse to sell its new hybrid Padfone 2 device in UK stores this week.

The Padfone 2 is a uniquely designed device, which transforms a phone in to a tablet by being be slid into a 10.1 inch tablet docking station.

The design removes the need for customers to have two separate SIM’s and tariffs to access data services on their phone and tablet.

Features on the device include a 13 Mega-Pixel rear camera and Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

The device is available for free on Vodafone tariffs starting at £33 a month, which offers 600 anytime minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB data. The device will also be available on selected tariffs on Orange and T-Mobile.

ASUS account director Anand Unadkat said: “We are now ready to expand our UK portfolio with smartphones. Innovation and design will always be at the core of ASUS, and the Padfone 2 underlines our position as the world’s leader in bringing innovative converged devices to market.

“Smartphones and tablets are the two of fastest growing technology sectors, and the Padfone 2 brings both devices together under one tariff plan.”
