Retailer sells out of initial allocation of BlackBerry QWERTY devices within two hours

BlackBerry’s Q10 has become Selfridges’ fastest selling consumer technology product following the retailer’s exclusive launch of the handset last Friday.

According to the manufacturer the initial stock of the device sold out within two hours with new stock being delivered to stores throughout the weekend.

The retailer has Carphone concessions in its department stores in London, Birmingham and Manchester and was also offering online sales through its own website – where the only other handsets offered are Blackberry’s Porche model and very high end Vertu handsets.

In its consumer electronics section of the store Selfridges also stocks tablets, laptops, cameras and TVs.

Selfridges head of home and leisure Julian Slim said: “The BlackBerry Q10 has been, without a doubt, the most highly anticipated smartphone we have ever sold and is already our most successful. Our partnership has proven to be a powerful combination of great technology and commercial success.”

BlackBerry UK MD Rob Orr added: “The BlackBerry Q10 represents the next chapter in the BlackBerry 10 story and we are delighted that it has been so well received. This initial success at Selfridges highlights the strong consumer demand for a high-end physical keyboard smartphone.”
