Brightstar UK MD Jim Michel to step down at end of 2016

Industry veteran will leave company having taken over the UK division in 2013, with a successor named in due course

Brightstar UK MD Jim Michel will step down from his role at the end of 2016 after three years leading the business.

He joined the Crewe-based company in 2013 and oversaw the transition of the former 20:20 Mobile business from traditional hardware distributor to one offering value-added services.

It is currently engaged in a continuation plan that will see Michel remain in his role until the end of the year. An announcement on his successor will be made in due course.

Brightstar EMEA president Benoit Scheen said: “Under Jim’s guidance the UK business has met and exceeded its targets and continues to lead the market though our service led customer strategy.

“With Jim we will continue to execute our plans to the end of this year and our continuation strategy will ensure all projects remain on track.”

Michel added: “As a team we have shaken up the distribution landscape and together we have we have worked with our partners on new services that have re-shaped their businesses.

“Brightstar is, and continues to be, an innovative partner to its customers and a unique, refreshing and exciting place to work.”

Industry veteran Michel joined Brightstar in February 2014 having spent two years at Tech Data Mobile as UK and Ireland regional vice president.

He had previously spent two-and-a-half years at LG where he led its UK and Ireland mobile division and prior to that was general manager for Motorola in the same regions.
