Brightstar moves into Russia with retail deal

Brightstar is to start opeations in Russia after signing a multi-year agreement with Russian mobile phone retailer Euroset

Distributor Brightstar is to start operations in Russia after signing a multi-year services agreement with Russian mobile and consumer electronics retail chain Euroset.

The deal will see Brightstar source handsets for Euroset, assist in the development of its mobile strategy and handle category management. Brightstar will also provide Euroset with a range of supply chain and retail operations services.

Going forward, Brightstar and Euroset will identify and pursue additional joint market development opportunities.

Brightstar’s supply chain services include device sourcing, supply chain planning, device management, dealer channel support and reverse logistic services.

Brightstar chairman, president and chief executive officer Marcelo Claure said: “Brightstar is extremely proud to have this opportunity to begin operations in Russia.”

Euroset has retail operations across Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. It has retail outlets in Vladivostok, Kiev, Kursk, Minsk, Moscow, St Petersburg as well as two dozen other locations. It claims to sell more than nine million mobile handsets annually across Russia, equating to one-third of the Russian mobile retail market, it said.

Euroset president Alexander Malis said: “With Brightstar’s experience and expertise from working with the world’s top device manufacturers, operators and retailers, we are expecting Euroset’s profit margin to increase.”
