BAI has been awarded a 20-year concession with Transport for London (TFL) to give customers uninterrupted coverage and full connectivity on the Tube and in stations.

BT has announced a multi-million pound deal with BAI Communications to help deliver high speed mobile and Wi-Fi across the London Underground.

The deal follows BAI’s announcement that Three and EE are the first to join its neutral host network which will provide 4G and 5G-ready mobile infrastructure available for use by all mobile operators

BT Wholesale will support BAI to deliver this infrastructure with premium data centre space in London, high-bandwidth connectivity and using 100 per cent renewable power for all sites.

All UK mobile operators can co-locate their equipment within these data centres and BT Wholesale will operate and manage these sites as a neutral party.

Commenting on the deal, BT Wholesale managing director Alex Tempest said: “The deal is further evidence of BT’s commitment to boost the capital’s digital infrastructure – helping London maintain its status as a great place to live, work, and do business.

“We’re busy doing that through the expansion of the Openreach fibre and EE mobile networks, together with our leading wholesale capabilities.”

BAI Communications UK CEO Billy D’Arcy added: “This deal marks a significant step in our progress towards delivering high-speed mobile coverage across the London Underground network, with BT’s data centres playing an essential role in helping London leapfrog other major cities in terms of connectivity.

“BT Wholesale’s services will support our neutral host infrastructure in transforming the experience of customers with all UK mobile operators, providing seamless, 5G-ready coverage that will allow passengers to move around the capital more smartly, safely, and securely.”
