Most businesses ignorant about analogue phone switch off – Gamma report

A third of UK businesses are still ignorant abut the discontinuation of the pubic switched network and chage to VoIP scheduled to take place by December 2025.

So says a report, titled ‘The Big Switch-Off: Are UK Businesses Aware and Prepared?’ by Gamma Communications plc in collaboration with the Centre for Economics Business Research (Cebr) 

The report surveyed 400 business decision and found only 54 per cent of businesses that will be impacted by the Switch-Off, are aware of discontinuation.

Businesses in Northern Ireland have the lowest rate of awareness

The PSTN Switch-Off is already underway but 74 per cent of businesses are yet to complete essential migration tasks. Around half of businesses surveyed haven’t researched alternatives and formed a migration plan, to ensure a seamless transition.

The report also shows that there is a significant disparity in awareness across different regions as well as industries. Businesses in Northern Ireland have the lowest rate of awareness (44 per cent) followed by businesses in Southeast England (47 per cent).

Gamma Chief Marketing and Product Officer Chris Wade at says the next 12 months are crucial for UK businesses still using PSTN.

A significant number of businesses are currently reliant on legacy services for customer communications, order taking, internal communications, security and even lift operation. To ensure a smooth transition businesses need to act now and explore alternative digital communications available to them.”
