Carphone appoints new retail director

Anthony Hemmerdinger, a Sainsbury’s zone managing director for London will take responsibility for retailer’s 800 store estate in the summer

The Carphone Warehouse UK has appointed former Sainsbury’s veteran Anthony Hemmerdinger as retail director responsible for running the company’s 800 store retail estate.

While working as Sainsbury’s zone managing director Hemmerdinger was responsible for over 135 stores across London and its surrounds.

Carphone Warehouse managing director Matt Stringer said: “Anthony brings a wealth of commercial experience across to our business.

“I believe he is a great cultural fit for us with a real passion for driving service and developing teams with a strong retail voice to influence central functions.”

Hemmerdinger who starts his role in the summer said: “The Carphone Warehouse is a fantastic retailer and I am incredibly excited to join the team, especially at such a fascinating time in the development of the business and its Connected World vision.
