Chinese vendor ZTE has won a contract with China Mobile, the world’s largest network operator, to deliver its core IMS network in certain Chinese provinces.

China Mobile’s commercial IMS network will boast 1.4 million lines when completed in three months. It will enable China Mobile to launch various FMC services such as Converged Centrex, Converged One Number, Multimedia CRBT and Converged Conferencing.
ZTE Corporation vice president of core network Mr. Wang Xiaoqiang said: “This is a new beginning of strategic cooperation in next generation core network field between China Mobile and ZTE. Our innovative and complete IMS solution helps China Mobile to provide cutting-edge converged services, expanding its business especially in enterprise market space.”

China Mobile became a full-service operator with the re-organisation of China’s telecom industry in 2008, and its acquisition of fixed-line player China Tietong. An IMS-based network will allow China Mobile to deliver fixed voice and multimedia services to individual and enterprise users over IMS, and also to build an IMS-based FMC network.

ZTE provides a full IMS portfolio that covers IMS core network, service platform, access, terminal, and OSS/BSS. Its IMS solution supports FMC, IT & CT convergence, and telecom and cable convergence.
