New connectivity service from Northern Irelands only Vodafone gold partner

Belfast-based Vodafone gold partner and solutions specialists Connect Telecom has added to its product portfolio with the launch of a telematics solution.

Telematics uses SIM-based GPRS connectivity to track a vehicle’s location and other data to allow companies to analyse the data and improve performance. Users simply install a telematics box inside the vehicle and it will feed back in real-time to data centres. Key metrics include fuel efficiency, driver behaviour and the ability to track where loads are at any one time.

“It was something we were being asked for and a product set we were being asked to supply more and more,” managing director Matthew Brown told Mobile News. “Part of us was trying to complete the overall solution, so it was a natural progression to include the telematics piece.

“It’s enhanced completely what we’re trying to do, providing that integrated solution to allow customers to work more effectively and efficiently. It made natural sense to look at telematics for those customers.”

Initially, the firm will be providing only the connectivity but Brown said that it would soon be offering analytics of the data to its client base.

The business manages arounnd 10,000 connections in Northern and the Republic of Ireland, Northern England and moved into Scotland around seven months ago. It is the only Vodafone gold partner in Northern Ireland.
