Ten year contract with Essex County Council will see unified comms provider supply services forming part of the local authority’s Next Generation Network

Daisy Updata Communications, the joint venture between Daisy Group and Updata Infrastructure, has won a 10-year contract worth £81 million to provide unified comms services to Essex County Council (ECC).

They will form part of ECC’s Next Generation Network, initially connecting schools and corporate sites but have the ability to encompass other public stakeholders, such as the NHS.

This also includes members of the Essex On Line Partnership, a group of organisations working together on ICT projects including local district, borough and unitary councils, Essex Police and Essex County Fire Services.

The NGN can also connect other public and third party sector organisations from other regions to provide an immediate connection to the Government’s G-cloud CloudStore for cloud services.

Daisy Group CEO Matthew Riley (pictured) said: “This contract win is an illustration of the success we can achieve in the public sector. Essex County Council’s choice of Daisy Group and Updata is testament to the high level of service and cost savings we can provide to our customers via a truly unified communications offering.

“This is the blueprint for success for other local authorities and we look forward to being able to provide our services through the framework to reduce costs and transform access for public services to ICT.”

ECC CIO David Wilde said: “DUCL has developed a model that will deliver our strategic objectives and support the transformation of the Council’s services delivered to our citizens. As part of its bid process, DUCL proposed a highly innovative and transparent commercial model that ensured best value for the county and helped us achieve our cost savings.”
