The AIR 3268 claims to be the lightest and smallest Massive MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) radios in the industry and reduces energy consumption by 40 per cent

Mobile operator EE (BT) has announced that it has begun the roll out of Ericsson Massive MIMO radio technology across 1000 UK sites which will deliver improved 5G energy efficiency and network performance.

The new equipment will operate in EE’s 3.4 GHz and 3.6 GHz bands and in addition to increasing energy economy, it also aims to increase network capacity, coverage and speeds to give users a better 5G mobile experience.

The ultra-lightweight antenna-integrated radio (AIR 3268) is said to be smaller and lighter than previous radio equipment and uses up to 40pc less energy.

The first deployments of the Ericsson technology will be in London, followed by sites in Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast later in 2022.
