Exertis looks to grow revenues by $200m following Asian move

Increased demand for own products has seen IT and mobile distributor expand Shenzhen office and doubled staff count to 30

Exertis expects revenues at the company to increase by up to $200 million (£131 million) over the next 12 months, following its recent expansion in the Asian market.

The mobile and IT distributor, which has operations in the UK, Europe, US and China, has been forced to expand its Shenzhen office and double staff to 30.

Exertis sourcing director Cillian O’Mara (pictured) said this is due to increased demand from retailers and businesses for Exertis’ own products and services, most notably its Windows-run tablet range Linx (sold in retailers such as Game and Currys), which are built and distributed from the region.

Global market
O’Mara told Mobile News its presence in Shenzhen has generated more than $200 million in revenues over the past year, while Exertis in the UK sold a “market leading” two million tablets, including brands Samsung, Sony, ASUS, Microsoft, Dell.

He said the company is keen to replicate its success across other parts of the world – with China playing a key role in facilitating that growth.

“We’ve been involved in the tablet market for several years and we’re the biggest tablet distributor in the UK,” said O’Mara.

“What we’re looking at with tablets is not just the European market but the global market, and we plan to distribute it and manage those products out of China. We expect the $200 million figure to increase by at least 20 per cent, but it could be as much as double.”

O’Mara said boosting its presence in Shenzhen will enable it to form closer ties with partners such as Microsoft and Intel, who also have a major manufacturing presence in the area. He claims this will help Exertis experience, test and deploy the latest technologies available for its products, again noting Linx tablets, increasing its speed to the market.
