Training scheme is open to all staff and aimed at building companies future from within
Excalibur has had its first four employees graduate from its business school, which it said is the biggest single investment it has made in staff training in its 22 year history.
The Vodafone Platinum Partner said it invested more than £20,000 in the training scheme, alongside a lot of company time, to provide staff with a greater understanding of the business.
The training school was open to all of Excalibur’s 50-plus members of staff. Those who wanted to take part were required to provide a CV and statement, before being interviewed by the firm’s senior management team.
The four candidates selected were Tom Bolt, Darren Harper, Julie Cleaver, and Becky Gale (pictured above left to right with Excalibur CEO James Phipps, centre). They were given eight full days training around teamwork, customer service, performance, budgets, profit/loss and business finance.
The trainees were tasked with developing a special project to demonstrate Excalibur’s approach to customer services.
Excalibur head of sales Emma Carter, who oversaw the Business School, said: “This has been a significant investment for a company of our size, but it is extremely rewarding to see how much everybody gets out if it. The investment is far from just financial.
“There’s a substantial commitment in time, but promoting from within to develop our managers of the future is all part of our own journey to becoming the top employer in the South West.”
Excalibur said it plans to offer the additional training to more members of staff who are keen to get involved.
Darren Harper, one of the quartet of graduates, said: “We can really see the value of the Business School. It has been very hard work, but I’ve learned many new important skills and discovered plenty I never knew I had!
“I now want to put it all into practice to help drive Excalibur forward as the market leader for Unified Comms in the South West and beyond.”
