Former Vodafone consumer director Gopalan joins DT

Srini Gopalan also spent three years as CMO at T-Mobile UK, and will become a board member at German telecoms giant

Former Vodafone UK consumer director Srini Gopalan has joined Deutsche Telekom as a board member for Europe.

Gopalan will join the German operator in October and take up a seat on the board at the on January 1 next year. He will takeover the responsibilities of Claudia Nemat, who will head up DT’s new Technology and Innovation Board.

Gopalan will join from Indian telco Bharti Airtel, where he has been consumer business director for almost three years, overseeing 23 regions in India.

He joined Bharti Airtel after a three year stint as Vodafone’s consumer director, a role he first took on in August 2010. He was also CMO at T-Mobile UK for just over a year, where he was part of the management team that oversaw the joint venture with Orange that led to the creation of EE.

Deutsche Telekom CEO Timotheus Hoettges said: “I look forward to working with Srini Gopalan. We’re strengthening technology and IT with the new Board department on the one hand, while on the other hand we’re strengthening our expertise on marketing and sales with our new head of Europe who has extensive experience with consumers.”

His successor at Vodafone, Cindy Rose, has also recently taken on a new role, having agreed to become Microsoft’s new UK CEO last week.
