Latest high-end Galaxy handset from Samsung becomes retailer’s best selling of the year, based on pre-orders and first day sales

The Samsung Galaxy S III has become Phones 4U’s best selling handset of 2012. However the retailer declined to validate this claim with any sales figures.

Its claim is based on pre-orders and first day sales across the retailer’s 600 stores. It also includes sales from the Samsung PIN experience pop-ups in Westfield Shepherds Bush and Old Spitalfields Market, which Phones 4U is the official UK retail partner for.

Prior to the Galaxy S III also going on sale, it had also broken the record for Phones 4U’s most pre-ordered handset ever.

It followed Carphone Warehouse’s announcement last week that the smartphone was its fastest selling pre-order of 2012.

The Galaxy S III is available to customers on Phones 4U’s ‘Just Update My Phone’ (JUMP) contract, which enables them to upgrade their handset from a selection of smartphones from partners Vodafone and Orange, as often as every six months.

Phones 4U chief commercial officer Scott Hooton said: “The demand for the Samsung Galaxy SIII has been truly phenomenal both in the pre-order period and on launch day. First day trade was exceptionally strong in all stores and at the Samsung PINs.

“A high proportion of the sales made were via JUMP, with new customers starting up contracts and pre-existing JUMP customers also coming in store to take advantage of the flexible upgrade and get their hands on the Galaxy SIII.”
