Deal will help manufacturer quadruple revenues to £10m by the end of 2016, MD Westley claims

Global Mobile Communications (GMC) has signed up retailer Toolstop to supply DeWalt MD501 handsets, which it says will help more than quadruple annual revenues to £10 million by the end of 2016.

The agreement, signed at the end of July, will see the device made available online via Toolstop. co.uk for £454.80.

GMC MD Stephen Westley claims 5,000 of the phones have already been sold since its launch in May – and will account for £7 million of its revenues over the next 12 months.

Tradesmen

He told Mobile News: “Nobody has ever sold a smartphone in this kind of retail environment before. Tradesmen won’t necessarily look in a conventional phone shop for a work phone, but they’ll spend the majority of their time in a tool shop.

“Having the brand in this environment is beneficial to both ourselves and Ingram. Tradesmen already see DeWalt as a high-quality and well-established brand. I’m confident this agreement will help us achieve our targets.”

In April, GMC, also an EE and O2 partner, signed a three-year deal with Ingram to distribute the MD501. DeWalt, which primarily manufactures power tools, first entered the mobile market after partnering with RugGear, launching in April.
