Honor has unveiled its latest smartphone the 5X during a packed launch event in Munich.

The Huawei sub brand invited Mobile News along with other global press to the launch (February 4), which took place in a high ceiling warehouse in the centre of the city.

It is made from aluminium material which it claims will not warm up even for those using it for hard core gaming. A chainsaw was taken to an aluminium bar to prove its strength, sending sparks across the stage.

Features

Key features include enhanced fingerprint recognition security, positioned on the back of the device – comparable to the Huawei Mate S launched at IFA, Berlin in September.

“Leading smartphone brand”

Head of Honor overseas business Zhao Gang also took the stage during the launch, praising the firm’s success in such a short history, becoming what he claims to now be a “leading smartphone brand.”

His claims were backed up by discussing the brands sales over the past two years. Focussing on the “young generation”, it sold more than 40 million smartphones in 2015, double that of 2014, its first full year of trading.

For the Brave“Honor is now a leading smartphone (eCommerce) e-brand”, “we’re not a big brand when it comes to advertising, we are about value. We listen to your opinions to improve ourselves.

“We’re growing very fast. Sales value is now over ‚¬6 billion. Honor believes, ‘no partners no future’.”

The device follows the Honor 7 which was launched in London last year, and was for a period the best selling device on Amazon both in the UK and in Germany.

Honor handsets are now sold in 74 countries, expanding further by entering the US market, as well as pushing sales in Russia, India and Japan.

The Honor 5X will go on sale today across Europe, the US, China, Japan and Russia.
