IFA: HTC unveil new Desire 820 smartphone

New “affordable” mid-range 5.5 inch screen device is aimed at “entertainment lovers”

HTC has kicked of IFA 2014 by unveiling its new Desire 820 smartphone.

The ‘polycarbonate’ device, a follow up to the mid-range Desire 816 (released in May), will be available from September, although a UK release has yet to be confirmed.

Features on the improved 4G handset, include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor (the first on an HTC), with integrated 4G LTE Cat 4 connectivity and 64-bit, multi-core CPU, which HTC says delivers  ‘exceptional speeds’ (150mbps download, 50mbps upload).

The device also includes  a 5.5 inch HD screen (720p resolution), ‘BoomSound’ speakers, Android 4.4 Kitkat, 2,600mAh battery, an 8 megapixel front facing camera with editing software, and a 13 megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor designed to boost performance in all light conditions and capturing moving objects.

 

HTC Corporation CEO said Peter Chou said: “Our new HTC Desire model gives entertainment lovers exactly what they are looking for; a powerful, fast, stylish smartphone that delivers content on a big screen at a competitive price.”

The device will be available in a variety of colours (see below) including (HTC terminology) Marble White, Tuxedo Grey, Santorini White, Milky-way Grey, Tangerine White,  Saffron Grey, Flamingo Grey, Blue Mist, and Monarch Orange.
