iPhone 6 launch sees footfall rise by 8.2 per cent across mobile phone

Mobile phone retailers saw an 8.2 per cent year-on-year rise in footfall in September, despite the overall high street seeing a 1.7 per cent drop.

The collapse of Phones 4u also saw a huge month-on-month increase of  28 per cent across all remaining mobile phone retailers, according to Ipsos Retail Performance’s Retail Traffic Index. The figures measure the amount of people entering 4,000 non-food retailers every month.

The polling company says that the rise in footfall traffic is down to the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus which went on sale on September 19. Apple sold more than 10 million handsets globally on the first weekend of its sale.

Uswitch.com data named the iPhone 6 the UK’s most popular handset in September despite pre-orders for the handset only opening on September 12. The website’s Mobile Tracker is based on live searches, pre-orders and sales.
