O2 expands UK 5G rollout to areas in Surrey, Lincoln and Tyne & Wear

The service has gone live today (September 7) across the three areas

O2 has expanded its 5G network to more parts of the UK with the service going live in parts of Tyne & Wear, Surrey and Lincoln.

It continues the operators 5G rollout in the last year, with over 60 towns and cities covered.

The areas in Tyne & Wear to receive O2’s 5G service include Jarrow, Blaydon, Washington and Tynemouth.

Chipstead, Staines and Weybridge are the beneficiaries within Surrey.

O2 has also revealed that it is investing £2 million a day in its 4G network, with a key focus on rural communities.

O2 CTO Brendan O’Reilly said: “We’re excited to be switching on our 5G network across three new areas today, which will unlock the exciting benefits of next generation connectivity for customers and businesses.

“As we continue our 5G rollout at pace we are investing around £2 million a day in our network to ensure our customers can stay connected to the people they love and businesses can survive and thrive as Britain looks to rebuild following Covid-19.”
