Operator now more than halfway through its current franchise plan, with the possibility of extending the target still in the pipeline

O2 has revealed 177 of its 466 retail estate is now franchise owned.

O2 announced a year ago it planned to add an additional 82 franchise stores to its base  – taking numbers above 200.

Speaking to Mobile News this month, O2 CEO Ronan Dunne said 52 of the 82 available stores have now been franchised – with that figure expected to rise further before the end of the year.

The first new stores opened in Glasgow three months ago.

Agreements for the remaining stores have been agreed – but yet to be completed.

O2’s franchise website currently states no new applicants are being accepted.

Dunne said: “Everything has worked really well so far with the franchise programme and the franchisees are pleased.

“We have had a high quality number of franchisees wanting to do more, as well as would-be franchisees.

Priority Moments
Dunne said  O2’s location-based loyalty scheme Priority Moments has saved O2 customers more than £40 million in exclusive discounts since launching in 2011.

O2 Priority, which lets people to purchase tickets before they go on general sale, has been used by 2.4 million O2 users.
