Smartphone is the first to feature a DAB/DAB+ radio tuner, enabling customers to seamlessly access stations without using their data allowance

O2 has secured exclusive rights to sell the LG Stylus 2 – the world’s first smartphone to feature a DAB/DAB+ tuner.

The Stylus 2 works with the built-in Radioplayer app to seamlessly connect to a range of radio stations through both DAB+ signal and internet streaming.

In addition, the app also uses the device’s internal DAB+ tuner to connect directly to DAB+ broadcasts, which LG claims uses significantly less power than normal streaming. It means customers can access radio stations without using their data allowance or battery.

Radioplayer UK managing director Michael Hill said: “Across the industry, we’ve been experimenting with hybrid radio for a couple of years and it’s great to see LG and O2 bring it to the mass market.

“Customers will love being able to listen to the UK’s best radio stations, whether that’s via DAB/DAB+, internet streaming or seamlessly switching between both.”

Aside from the radio features, the Stylus 2 is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 5.7-inch HD touchscreen, 13 megapixel rear and eight megapixel front cameras, 1.5GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory (expandable with microSD) and a 3,000mAh battery.

The Stylus 2 is available on the O2 Refresh tariff from £24 per month with no upfront charge. The range of tariffs offer between 500MB and 30GB of data as well as unlimited minutes and texts.
