O2 is to give 30 secondary school students an insight into the telecoms industry in celebration of National Women in Engineering Day tomorrow (June 23).
The students from Langley Academy and Baylis Court schools will get a tour of the network’s offices in Slough. They were selected based on their interest in the sector. A number of speakers will give them a glimpse of what it is like to work in the industry, followed by Q and A and networking lunch sessions. These include Telefonica UK head of talent Michelle Adams, head of IT channels and innovation Jennifer Rigby and chief operating officer Derek McManus.
Group activities on the day have been designed to show the pupils how O2’s network infrastructure works, with additional advice on interviewing and CV writing also being available.
O2 head of channels and innovation Jennifer Rigby said: “Our aim is to help ensure that everyone who wants to work in technology can do so, regardless of their gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, or disability. We need people from all walks of life, including women, to drive innovation and push technology forward together.”
