Vodafone Platinum Partner to provide IT support and restoration and back-up services to cricket ground in what is its biggest IT service contract to date

OneCom has won an IT and telecoms contract with the Ageas Bowl venue in Hampshire worth tens of thousands of pounds over two years. It said this is its biggest IT service contract to date.

The company, which is headquartered in Whiteley and has offices in a further eight UK locations, will provide IT support for the venue’s workstations and servers, operated by around 65 users, along with restoration and data back-up services.

OneCom will also monitor the systems in realtime to enable it to move swiftly to deal with any problems. A OneCom engineer will regularly spend time onsite and a representative will be present on all match days to ensure the systems are running smoothly.

Previously, the Ageas Bowl had a contract with Taylor Made Computer Solutions to supply it with IT services.

Test match

In addition, OneCom is also supplying mobile, fixed telephony and broadband services as part of the deal. It will supply staff with 30 devices, with mobiles predominantly made up of iPhone and Nokia Lumia smartphones.

The Ageas Bowl is the venue for all Hampshire County Cricket Club’s home matches and has a capacity of 15,000. It will host the Test match between England and India next month, as well as matches with Australia and New Zealand next year.

The contract with the Ageas Bowl comes after OneCom reported its best-ever six months trading, securing £20 million-worth of business and adding 25,000 new mobile connections. OneCom, which now has more than 225,000 connections on its base, said this was a 10 per cent increase on its previous best in the halfyear to October 31.

OneCom Services managing director James Bannister said: “This is a significant new development for us as it underlines our move into unified communications, where IT support, broadband and fixed and mobile telephone services are all supplied as one package.

“We will be using our monitoring solution to make sure the systems are running as they should, and as soon as a problem is flagged, we’re able to deploy an engineer to solve it. It’s very efficient and technically-advanced software, and in many cases we will know there is a problem before they do.”

“There will be many more to come but so far this is our biggest deal for IT service.”
