Hundreds of pounds cut from prices of all three models of RIM tablet in UK and US after manufacturer takes £230 hit on unsold stock in Q3
High street and online retailers have slashed the price of Research In Motion’s (RIM) BlackBerry PlayBook tablet in the UK and the US.
The device, which launched in the in the UK in June has seen prices cuts of more than £200 from its 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models since the turn of the year.
The price of the devices through retailer Carphone Warehouse has seen the 16GB model reduced from £399 to £169, the 32GB version down from £479 to £199, and the 64GB version down to £329 from £559.
Amazon has also cut its prices, with the 16GB model now costing £197 and the 32GB version available for £339. However, the online retailer lists very limited stock for all three versions.
Price cuts are also reflected in the US, where the device first launched in April last year.
Online retailer Amazon is now selling the 16GB version for $249 (£159), down from $499.

A number of industry sources, including distribution channels, have previously told Mobile News that the PlayBook has generated little interest from customers and sales have been poor.
