Fledgling manufacturer’s sales up 831 per cent

Realme was the fastest growing 5G Android smartphone brand globally in Q3 last year according to Counterpoint Research, which reports the three-year-old brand’s 5G smartphone sales grew 831 per cent year on year, faster than Xiaomi and Samsung.

Realme was set up in 2018 by by ex-Oppo vice president Sky Li and is part of the BBK Electronics group that includes Oppo, OnePlus and Vivo.

It now claims to be is the world’s sixth largest smartphone company and has become one of the top five brands in 21 markets.

The brand is now in 61 markets worldwide, including China and Southeast Asia, South Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa, and has a global user base of over 100 million.

Sky Li ran Oppo’s global overseas market taking Oppo from three markets to one that covers 31 countries and regions.

Realme shares production lines with Oppo in India and is aiming to be the top brand sold online in India.
